GLENDA is a beautiful mature lady with eyes that grab your heart and don't let go!  She SO longs to be in a home with a family of her own, a soft bed and lots of loving for the rest of her life.

BACKGROUND
This pretty lady was surrendered to a local shelter.  Her owner died and the rest of the family didn't want her so they dropped her off and never looked back.  When Glenda came to us, was extremely wary of all people and dogs -- her behavior indicated that she had been isolated, in some way treated poorly, and never exposed to anything or anyone outside her home.  She had also not been around other animals.  We placed her in a foster home with a trainer, who worked with her and gradually built her trust with both people and animals.  Unfortunately that home had a medial situation that forced us to move her, and due to lack of foster homes she's been in boarding since.  But in boarding she found a doggie buddy and turned yet another corner, becoming a real people dog and wanting attention (she had avoided it before except from her family).  Glenda has truly come such a long, long way -- and we desperately want her to have the love of her very own family for the rest of her life!

TEMPERAMENT
Glenda is a “Sweet Senior” -- a happy personality who loves life, adores walks, and loves/ loves/ loves attention.  She’ll do just about anything for a good belly rub.  And while she’s technically a senior, she’s got plenty of spunk.  She’d love a daily walk or two, and lots of cuddle time with you.  She’s house-trained and is calm in the house.  She dislikes being kenneled or even isolated in another room from her people - the only time she’s been destructive in a house is when she was temporarily kept in a separate room while working to introduce her to the other dogs in the house.  She is not destructive unless you try to isolate her in a kennel / room.  Her favorite thing to do is simply to hang out with her people!  She’d LOVE a retired person or a family where someone works from home.  She’d be your buddy and make you smile even when the day is a tough one.  She wants to please you, and is easy-going with grooming (including nail trims). She loves her food and will let you know if you hold onto that dinner bowl or treat too long.

ENERGY LEVEL
Glenda is something of a couch potato indoors, but has healthy energy level and loves going out in the yard or on walks. If you like snuggles and a pretty minimal exercise level, Glenda’s your girl!

OTHER ANIMALS
For a while, Glenda was in a foster home with another dog of the same size along with the occasional extra foster dog (see her photos). She had some issues of competitiveness at first but the excellent foster family helped her work through that and she coexisted well with them.  However, she will not do well with a dominant or pushy dog and will stand her ground.  So she probably live with a submissive / mellow dog, but her ideal home is probably as an only pet in the home where she can soak in all of her person's attention.   She is not appropriate for dog parks or any off-leash public locations.
CATS:  She was cat tested several months ago and her initial reaction was to jump back from it, then turn toward the cat.  We are currently trying to arrange a further cat test.

CHILDREN
We recommend older kids, approximately 12 and up.

MEDICAL
Spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots and monthly preventives.  No known health conditions.  Glenda has her bags packed and is just waiting for you!   Note:  the owner’s family told the shelter she had taken Prozac for anxiety, but she has not been on it at anytime since coming to MOGS. The anxiety and uncertainty she had when she first arrived have disappeared, and we think they were environmental, caused by her circumstances.

If you're looking for a mature, trainable German Shepherd
who will chill out, hang with you, and love you,
GLENDA may be your ideal family member!

GLENDA'S ADOPTION FEE:   $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.

More about Glenda

Is Not Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
