SALVI is a gorgeous Belgian Tervuren Shepherd that was left unclaimed by his owner at a local shelter.
TEMPERAMENT
Salvi is super-friendly boy, who started out a bit rough around the edges, but with appropriate handling has revealed that he's a total gem!
Salvi loves being with his people, and has been friendly with adults and children of all ages. He has started learning some basic behavior commands, such as sit, down and wait ["wait" is a command used to prevent dogs from bolting at doorways and gates]. He walks well on a leash, is house-broken and crate-trained. Salvi does have some mild separation anxiety, so will need to be worked with closely for the first few months post-adoption, to help him relax and learn his crate means safety and comfort, vs. abandonment [one of his super powers is crate-breaking when anxious and home alone].
OTHER ANIMALSSalvi is currently in a foster home with two bigger dogs, and his most favorite activity is to play and play and play, and tease his canine buddies into chasing him into zoomies. Salvi does have moderate-to-high energy, but will settle down nicely when expected to do so inside the home. He will need to have a home with at least one dog his size or larger, to help guide his behavior, as well as burn off energy.
Salvi has been cat tested multiple times, and does not appear to be a risk to cats.
CHILDREN
Salvi has been exposed to adults and children of all ages at multiple event sights, and has done well with them all.
MEDICAL
Salvi is up-to-date on all vaccines, is neutered and heartworm negative. He has had some swelling complications post-neuter, but these issues are being resolved.
If you're looking for a gorgeous, young, trainable German Shepherd
who will love you forever,
SALVI may be your ideal family member!
SALVI'S ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
