UPDATE 6.27.09: After several months in boarding Jellybean is back in her original foster home and doing great! She had to go into boarding due to her foster mom having a family emergency. Although doggie daycare at the boarding facility was fun, Jellybean is soooooo happy to be back in a home with her foster mom and foster doggie siblings!
Jellybean has been in our rescue for 8 months now, which is way too long! She was dumped in a high kill shelter last fall by her original owners using the age old excuse of moving. We love her dearly, but would like to see her go to her forever home ASAP. She had two great potential adopters who had to rescind their applications due to financial difficulties (job losses, layoffs) in this challenging economy. Can you provide a loving, permanent home for this darling girl?!?
Jellybean is a very intelligent dog who already knows sit, down, and shake. She walks well on a leash and rides nicely in the car. She also sits nicely while waiting for her food and treats, which she takes gently. She is good with other dogs of her size and has shown no aggression towards cats in her foster home. We are still evaluating whether she may be placed in a home with smaller dogs. Jellybean will bark at people and dogs she doesn't know (mostly just to say "hey look at me!"), and after being introduced is a very sweet to all! She likes licking the faces of Petsmart employees!
The one thing we are still working on with her is not jumping up on people, and coming on too strong out of sheer excitement. She just can't hardly help herself as she loves people so much!!
Jellybean is also crate trained and her new adopter will probably need to crate her while away from home so she doesn't get herself in trouble. She crates well at night also, but is currently doing just fine sleeping on a dog bed with her foster siblings and next to her foster mom, whom she likes to awake in the the mornings by licking her hand!
Jellybean can be high energy so would love a yard to to romp and play in or an owner willing to walk her regularly. She would also love to find a home where she would have a doggie playmate. Jellybean has jumped a four foot fence on two occasions when her foster mom was on the other side of it, so a five to six foot fence is recommended. However, with training and proper supervision a four foot may suffice.
Lastly, since Jellybean has a good amount of hound dog in her, she really loves to use her nose. She loves sniffing all over her yard, treeing squirrels, etc., so would really enjoy an owner willing to harness this ability through games/playing or even by teaching her tracking skills. Jellybean is very intelligent, eager to please, and highly food motivated, so we feel she would make a great companion in many ways, especially if someone wanted to give her further training beyond basic obedience.
Jellybean's adoption fee is $200, fully vetted. Her time in boarding alone has cost us more than her adoption fee, so if you would like to make a donation towards Jellybean's care, we would be most grateful!
