Foster Home Update 8/12/09: Pete is a funny guy!! Just recently he has started a "new game"....if he can't get your attention after putting his face in yours, trying to work his way under your hand, he jumps side ways, then stands and gives one of his intent looks and barks once. He is learning to catch his treats in air and in general is just a goof ball.

Update 5/4/09: Pete's foster home reports he's awesome there! He hasn't had any accidents and has slipped easily into their routine. We think Pete might make a good apartment dog, as once he's had some excercise, he's happy to just hang out or sleep for hours after! He loves to wrestle with his foster siblings. He loves everyone he meets on walks and at the dog park, kids and adults alike!

PETE is high mix German Shepherd boy who is very sweet. He's a little shy at first but quickly comes out of his shell once he gets to know you. He LOVES attention and LOVES to play. He especially loves to play ball with our volunteers.

Although he does love to play, PETE is a pretty low key guy and has no problem kicking back and relaxing while he's indoors. He's a smart dude and will be easy to train - he learns very quickly and is eager to please. He weighs about 50 lbs, is fully grown, and is good with other dogs and cats. We have not seen him around kids but suspect he would do well.

PETE's adoption fee is $200.

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

1. We're picky about our adopters. 
2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.  
   
3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
   
5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up? 
   
6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
