About ADOPTED! Panzer

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Housetrained: Yes
UPDATE #5 10.2.08 Panzer's training is slow, but going well. His trainer feels that overall he can be rehabilitated, but will need long term assistance and support to deal with his fear based aggression and lack of trust. Therefore, we will only adopt Panzer to a very experienced GSD person or to someone who is a certified trainer. It would be best for Panzer to go to a home without children of any age.

UPDATE #4 Monday 9.8.08 Panzer starts his training tomorrow with Ken. Please keep Panzer in your thoughts and prayers, that he is responsive to his training.

UPDATE #3 Saturday 9.6.08
A most generous couple has donated the entire $700 needed to pay for Panzer's training with an aggression expert, and kennel boarding to be near his trainer. THANK YOU CHERYL AND BRUCE! You are truly special people. Panzer's training will begin soon, and we will post another update when he has settled down and is again available for adoption. If you are interested in Panzer, please go ahead and request an application by emailing mogsrescue@yahoo.com. Please put "Panzer - send application please" in the subject line.

UPDATE #2 Tuesday 9.2.08 10 pm
Panzer was taken to a boarding kennel this evening. He is traumatized and confused and incredibly sad. We MUST get him training or find him a special home FAST.

PLEASE donate to Panzer's fund. We are desperately in need of help and cannot afford to board Panzer or get him the training he needs. THANK YOU for helping us save this boy who had the misfortune to fall into the wrong hands. No amount is too small - we truly appreciate any help you can give. To donate, go to www.mogsrescue.com and clickon the PayPal link. Please be sure to designate your donation for PANZER

UPDATE #2 Tuesday 9.2.08
Panzer is out of time and HAS to leave his home. We are putting him in boarding this afternoon. We have no other options. We're looking at our options, including having him trained by an expert in aggression.

UPDATE #1 Sunday, 8.31.08
Panzer's adoption fell through. He displayed aggression today to the 10 and 14 yr old daughters and the family gsd. Although the original owners presented Panzer as 'trained", he would not heel or follow any commands. Panzer can not go to a standard home environment but MUST got to a trainer or experienced german shepherd person equipped to deal with aggression / lack of training..

WE HAVE 24 TO 48 HOURS LEFT TO SAVE PANZER or he will have to be put down. Tonight he is staying at his family's new apartment illegally. .

We made numerous calls today, a holiday Sunday, and managed to talk to an aggression expert. He believes Panzer can be set right within about 10 days. Right now this is our ONLY option - to board Panzer near this trainer and have him work with Panzer for 10 days. The trainer guarantees that Panzer will be an excellent dog within 3 to 10 days of the proper training.

EVEN AT A DISCOUNT, THIS TRAINING AND BOARDING WILL COST $700. IF YOU CAN DONATE TO SAVE PANZER'S LIFE, PLEASE DO. WE DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO HELP HIM. Please go to www.mogsrescue.com, click on the PayPal link and indicate your donation is for Panzer.

*EXTRA URGENT* *EXTRA URGENT*
PANZER MUST BE OUT OF HIS HOME BY AUG. 29!!!
CALL 816. 686-8100 IMMEDIATELY IF YOU CAN HELP PANZER.

WE ARE DOING EVERYTHING WE CAN AND WILL TAKE DONATIONS TO BOARD HIM AS WELL.

LOCATION: Kansas City
AGE: 13 months

TEMPERAMENT: great with his own family and other animals, a bit protective of his family/home due to lack of socialization that is correctable with training due to his young age

*XXXX URGENT* FOSTER ME!! I GO TO THE POUND IF NO FOSTER OR HOME IS FOUND BY AUGUST 29!!

PANZER is a drop-dead handsome 13 mo old black and tan german shepherd with AKC papers that were never registered. He was purchased by a gentleman who contracted cancer and was fulfilling a long time wish to have a german shepherd.

Unfortunately, the family is being forced to move into a small apartment and, while his cancer treatment is giong well, the owner can no longer care for Panzer.

PANZER knows something is up and is uncertain and concerned. He's a bit uncomfortable around strangers for the time being, as his owner has not socialized him much. Panzer is a beautiful young dog who will be easily trained, but he will need socialization. He currently lives with another dog and is fine around other animals. He is fine with the small grandchildren in the family, but for the time being we recommend no small children in the house until Panzer becomes more completely socialized and adpated to a totally new home situation.

FOR AN APPLICATION, email 'mosrescue@yahoo.com. Please write "PANZER - application please" in the subject line

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING A HOMELESS DOG OR CAT.

OVER 4 MILLION INNOCENT DOGS AND CATS ARE KILLED EVERY YEAR IN THE U.S. BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS THEM.

THOUSANDS OF WONDERFUL FAMILY DOGS AND CATS DIE EACH DAY IN OUR SHELTERS.

STOP THE SLAUGHTER.
DON'T BUY WHILE OTHERS DIE.

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
