About ADOPTED! Bear

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
UPDATE 9.30.08 Bear's mom is becoming impatient and concerned. He has been living alone in his former backyard for a long time now, and his mom and her new husband are traveling out of the country a good deal. BEAR NEEDS A REAL HOME OR FOSTER HOME NOW!!!! WILL YOU HELP THIS LOVEBUG WHO LOVES TO BE OUTDOORS? LOCATION: Kansas City
AGE: 5 yrs
TEMPERAMENT: a gentle giant of a boy -- loves his people, lived with kids, loves the outdoors. Not housetrained as he's spent so much time outdoors, but is very smart and can be trained.

BEAR lives up to his name - a big old bear of a boy (who could stand to lose some weight ;-D). He's stunning to look at - he looks like a very large german shepherd with a white background and black saddle. And you couldn't find a nicer personality than this boy for a terrific family dog.

In his own words, here's Bear's story.

Helllloooooo there!!! I'd love to meet you! You see, my mom has remarried and moved to a new house with a guy who doesn't like dogs. Besides, there's no yard, she called it a townhouse as if that meant something to me. Havent' the faintest what she's talking about but she says there's no room for me. Hee hee hee .. I admit I take up a bit of room at 110 lbs. And oh yeah I need to lose some weight, but I'm still a big boy no matter how you cut it.

So I need a new home. My mom got me for her grandkids almost 5 years ago. I lived with her daughter and grandkids and adored the little girls, but then they moved to Idaho and had to rent and didn't know where they'd go next and all that stuff ... so they gave me back to mom. I've lived with her for almost 3 years now and it's been wonderful. I had a big backyard and really loved being out in it most of the time. In fact, mom pretty much kept me out there so I'm not actually housetrained per se. But I'm one smart dude and will learn if you think I should.

Oh, and I think I'm a lap dog!!! Yep, thats right. 110 lbs. of lap dog! Mom had yorkies before she had german shepherds, so she's used to lap dogs. I just thought I'd continue the tradition (grin). Just you rub my ears and my tummy and love on me, I'm yours forever.

In fact, I'm such a good dog that when mom had an estate sale and the sale people broke the yard gate and left it open, I didn't even try to leave. Why the heck should I? I love my home and family!! Mom was sure relieved when she discovered that, let me tell you ;-)

Anyway, mom is now all moved to her new house and family and I'm living all alone at the old house. Mom comes by to see me and feed me every day, and when she's out of town she has someone come do it. I have food and a safe place to stay but you know, it's just not the same. And let's face it, mom can't hold on to this house forever. I've just GOT to find a new home. Mom has friends who tell her to take me to the pound and it strikes fear in my heart let me tell you. The rescue people have tried to tell mom what pounds are really like, but she's just beginning to understand.

I really, really, REALLY want a forever home and family. No more bouncing around every few years. I'm a mature guy now and deserve a forever family who won't dump me when they move. What fun we'll have, you and me!! We'll play outdoors and you can teach me how to have fun indoors and I'll adore you and sit on your lap (ok, ok, if you insist maybe on your feet). Just l-o-v-e on me and I'm yours!!

I'm healthy and gorgeous and loving and goofy. I have wonderful traits and mom is very sad at having to find me a new home. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE MY FAMILY. I've got so much love to give!

BEAR's adoption fee is $175.

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING A HOMELESS DOG OR CAT.

OVER 4 MILLION INNOCENT DOGS AND CATS ARE KILLED EVERY YEAR IN THE U.S. BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS THEM.

THOUSANDS OF WONDERFUL FAMILY DOGS AND CATS DIE EACH DAY IN OUR SHELTERS.

STOP THE SLAUGHTER.
DON'T BUY WHILE OTHERS DIE.

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
