About ADOPTED! Babe

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Housetrained: Yes
DECEASED March 2022 of old age at 14 yrs.  Adopter Tim, now in Kenmore WA, wrote lovely letter about how much she meant to him and all that she saw him through.  Godspeed, little girl ;-)

ADOPTER:  Tim Ireland  15609 84th Ave. NE, Kenmore WA  98028   785. 230-7103  (info as of 3/22)

THANK YOU,TIM & TRACIE and doggie sister Shelby of Topeka KS - you're giving Babe the best time of her life in your wonderful home!! How ironic that Babe should end up right back where she started -- and with a doggie sister who came from the exact same shelter she did. There must be some force at work ;-))

Age: 1 yr

BABE is an adorable girl who looks like a small, long hair German Shepherd. The shelter told us she was a 6 mo old long hair GSD pup, but she's about a year old and weighs 45 lbs. She looks like a very small long hair german shepherd with THE most adorable ears you've ever seen!

Babe was a stray in a Kansas shelter. Her owner was notified but never reclaimed her or her brother (a lovely boxer boy). She gets along fine with other dogs, and despite her smaller size she thinks she's queen bee and lets other dogs know what she thinks. She isn't afraid of foster siblings twice her size! Cats are unknown but likely a trainable matter.

Babe LOVES to play. She plays tug of war with a german shepherd twice her size and often wins. She bounces around and sometimes runs in circles in her excitement. When others are not in play mode, she entertains herself with squeaky toys and a chew bone. She loves her walks, is doing great on a leash, and hates to have you leave. She still has some separation anxiety but has improved considerably. We believe it will disappear entirely as she becomes secure in your home - but she'll probably always be the type to greet you at the door as if you've been away for a year!

Babe would love a fenced yard to play in and a doggie buddy would be desirable. We believe she would be fine around children, but may be a bit nippy around very young children so would be best with older children. She would love to be their play buddy and bounce on their beds with them.

She is not destructive in the house, is housetrained and crate trained. We think she's a very trainable girl - she wants to please you and be with her people.

Is Not Good with Kids

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
