UPDATE 10.20.08 Angel is in a temporary foster home while her new foster recovers. FOLKS,IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR ONE SMART, SWEET DOG - APPLY NOW!!! Listen to the temp foster's description of Angel's "Stealth Approach"
... I tried to take a nap downstairs but heard thumping from upstairs. Alan told me the noise was Angel who was told to lay down. Her down was a perfect obedience "down" with her paws under her body. Whenever she thought Alan wasn't looking, she pushed her butt up with her hind legs, scooted forward 6 inches and the butt went down again. She worked her way all across the room from her crate to the couch! So I sat on the floor and leaned on the couch, told all the dogs to go away and lay down. First she was in the comfy down, partially on the side, about a minute later she tucked all her legs under her body. Sure enough, butt up, scoot, butt down. I had a hard time not laughing. When she's close enough, she rolls on her back, and shows you her tummy. "Bellyrub, please??" IS THAT TOO CUTE??

UPDATE 9.15.08
ANGEL MUST LEAVE HER LONG-TERM FOSTER HOME IMMEDIATELY. There has been a change in circumstance and we must move Angel ASAP. She is completely recovered from her hip surgery and is great with kids, etc. Angel has come so far ... PLEASE HELP HER TO THE NEXT STEP. UPDATE 9.2.08
Angel is fully recuperated from her hip surgery and barely limps at all. You have to know it and watch for it to see the limp. She's doing great in her foster home but has been there for 5 months and needs a home to call her own! She's great with other dogs, cats, kids.
ANGEL IS CURRENTLY IN A WONDERFUL FOSTER HOME WHILE SHE RECUPERATES WELL FROM HER MAJOR HIP SURGERY.

Location: Omaha Age: approx 3 yrs

Angel was pulled from a high kill pound in western Kansas. She had a dislocated shoulder that would not stay when put back in, the result of having been left to sit in her kennel with the dislocated shoulder without treatment.. She underwent surgery on March 18 to set the leg. Tthat surgery was unsuccessful and several weeks later Angel went through another surgery ... and this time it has been VERY successful! Yay for Angel! ANGEL needs a forever home and family. She is great with kids (currently living with several). Her name comes from the fact that she has such a great temperament. At the shelter she was in terrible pain and while being drive to the vet she tried to get up and move but banged her leg. She cried but never once showed any aggression. Then she lay on the floor with the rescuer at the vet's office and gratefully accepted a 10-minute belly rub. Everyone at the surgeon's office had to stop and play with her (gently of course) because she is so sweet.

Angel has been through hell and back again. Are YOU her forever family - the ones who will make sure she never gets dumped or hit again?

Angel's adoption fee is $300 (a bargain, believe us!)

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
