About ADOPTED! Andy

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
CONGRATULATIONS TO AMIR AND ANDY! Andy now has a huge yard and a doting dad and is at home in Kansas City. His new dad has been waiting for just the right companion and Andy is it! He'll get plenty of spoiling but also lots of great training, as a good friend of the family is also a wonderful trainer. Lucky Andy! Lucky Amir! A match made in heaven.

ANDY is an adorable bundle of fur who looks like a small German Shepherd / Belgian Malinois mix. He and his brother Abe were dumped in a local park that's notorious for dumped dogs who become packs of strays. They are two of the fortunate few who made it out alive. In his own words, here's his story.

Hi there, everyone, how are you? Huh, huh, huh? Wanta cuddle? Wanta walk? Wanta play? I'm for it - any of it ;-D Let's go!!! Let's meet. Heck, let's live together! You see, I really really really need a home of my own with people to play with me and feed me and tell me they love me. 'Course, I also need a few manners (dunno why but my rescuers say I need them).

I'd love to sleep on a comfy bed at night near you or with you! Sound good? Call me! Come see me! Let's make beautiful music together!

Uh, what else did they say to tell you? Oh yeah - I'm neutered (yeech - didn't like the vet) and vaccinated and microchipped and all that jazz. I'm healthy and rarin' to get on with life.

I do okay on a leash until something interesting comes along and then I'm ready to go, go, go. So they say I need "leash training" whatever that is. I'll also need to learn about housetraining 'cause after all I was scrounging to live outdoors for a while and now I've been in boarding for a month or more and I can't quite remember all that stuff. Just show me, though - I'm pretty smart ;-D

I love food, I love to play and do really well in doggie daycare. Be my family and I'll adore you until the end of time. Promise, scout's honor!

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING A HOMELESS DOG OR CAT.

OVER 4 MILLION INNOCENT DOGS AND CATS ARE KILLED EVERY YEAR IN THE U.S. BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS THEM.

THOUSANDS OF WONDERFUL FAMILY DOGS AND CATS DIE EACH DAY IN OUR SHELTERS.

STOP THE SLAUGHTER.
DON'T BUY WHILE OTHERS DIE.

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
