AGE: 13 yrs

Jackie is a GORGEOUS, smaller girl whose elderly owner was placed in a facility and the family could not keep her. She is stunning with a gorgeous shining coat and a very mellow personality. Jackie gets along with other dogs beautifully - she is currently in a temporary foster situation with 4 other dogs in close quarters and seems to actually enjoy the interaction!

Jackie's vet says she's in remarkable health with only some arthritis in her back legs. She loves short walks and never pulls on the leash. She was not walked much in recent years and would have to build gradually up to longer walks.

She loves going outdoors and sniffing everything she can find. We believe being let out in the yard was her major source of being outdoors in the last few years.

She loves her food and adores treats such as cheese and jerky strips. She also has a favorite toy - a rubber armadillo - that she loves to squeak on. She spends the majority of her day lying around or sleeping. She loves to follow her person around the house and be with them.

She is housetrained but does currently have some accidents in the house. We believe it's due to the upheaval and trauma she's gone through. After never having been out of her own home, she has lost her lifetime guardian, spent 8 weeks in a pet hotel, been transported from Chicago to Kansas City, spent overnights in various places, and gone through a failed adoption. We believe that once she gets settled in to a home with regular schedule - preferrably where someone is home a good part of the day - she will settle down on that score.

This wonderful girl has several great years of love to give someone who would like a mellow, gorgeous companion. Is that you?

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

1. We're picky about our adopters. 
2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.  
   
3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
   
5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up? 
   
6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
