About COOPER

  • General Color: Black
  • Declawed: No
  • Housetrained: Yes
Cooper has been adopted!  Congrats to Chris and Karrie!!

Location:  Kansas City, MO
Age: 6 months on 6/11/09
Temperament:  Sweet, loving and playful - resiliant spirit!

Cooper is finally recovered from his accident!  He had broken both front legs, had to have surgery (and an external fixator), but after 11 long weeks is healed and ready to go to a permanent home.

Cooper is an incredibly smart puppy.  He has picked up on some commands just by watching his foster brother.  So far he is learning sit, down, stay, come, drop, off, no, out and crate.   He is aso learning not to chase the kitties (so far he just runs up and sniffs them - they are offended but I think he is just introducing himself!).  He needs more leash work, but that is to be expected after being stuck in that crate for so long!

Cooper loves his fenced backyard and tennis balls.  He loves playing with his foster brother - chasing, tug-o-war and wrestling are his three favorites.  He also enjoys playing fetch and tug with the kids.  He is a well-rounded family dog who also does well in a car - so well that if it weren't for his ears sticking up you'd forget he was back there!  And at the end of a long day, he likes to curl up on his pillow (or the bed!).

Cooper has an indomitable spirit and a heart of gold.  If you would like to make Cooper a part of your family, please contact us today!  Keep in mind that we are a volunteer only organization dedicated to finding permanent homes for all of the animals in our care.  Your patience is greatly appreciated while we evaluate every applicant and dog thoroughly to make sure that each one has found their forever family.

Special Considerations:
His right paw has some elongated tendons which looks funny when he stands on it, but causes him no pain or discomfort.  He has minor trouble placing his left paw due to some nerve damage, but this has only caused him an issue once in the week he has been out (his foster brother got over-excited and accidentally knocked him over before he could get his leg under him).  The vet thinks the nerve damage could still heal itself, but only time will tell.

If you can help us defray the costs of his surgery and re-Cooper-ation, please donate securely through our website at www.mogsrescue.com - every penny counts!

COOPER's adoption fee is $175.  For an explanation of our fees and policies, please visit us at www.mogsrescue.petfinder.com.

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
