JACKSON, and his bond-mate Sadie, were rescued by Animal Control after several concerned citizens reported that the duo were running loose in a local park. A large black and tan male, Jackson was significantly underweight and sick at the time of capture. Both he and Sadie are with us now, and on the road to recovery, thanks to their medical foster mom.
TEMPERAMENTJACKSON is a fun loving boy that gets along great with other dogs and wants nothing more than to be loved on. He has a happy go lucky nature, and, typically, he is the first one to meet a new person with a wagging tag and a happy smile on his face. Jackson does have a keen eye and is always on the lookout for changes in his environment, with a protective instance to alert his people of any danger - which can include a trespassing squirrel, rabbit, or person walking down the drive.
He is crate trained and will enter and exit voluntary with no fuss or muss. Upon arrival to his foster home, he did not understand what regular food was or that it came in a bowl. However, he has developed a great appetite and has learned to eat from a puppy serving dish (bowel) which may be one of his top daily activities. He is NOT food aggressive and will allow people to pick up and move his bowl before, during, and after a meal. As the true gentleman he is, his bonded sister can also eat out of his bowl, with nothing more than a lick to her nose. (Will also allow her to join him out of her bowl with no issue. He is housebroke with no accidents. Leash manners are getting better, only on occasions pulling on the leash while walking. He is gaining the leadership and guidance to make him a truly exceptional pup, and will require continued training to understand commands
and to be a good member of a home.
OTHER ANIMALS
Jackson gets along well with both dogs and cats. He is very curious about smaller animals, but has not shown any signs of a small animal prey drive. Jackson is deeply bonded to his sister Sadie, and both dogs will only be adopted out as a pair.
CHILDREN
Jackson has not been tested around young children, but has done well with older teens.
MEDICAL
Jackson has no known medical issues.
Jackson's perfect home will be one that can help him continue his training to understand commands, and to be a good member of a home. It is a requirement that he be adopted as a bonded pair with Sadie. His sweet nature and gentle disposition makes him the ideal buddy for any family!
If you're looking for a gorgeous, young, trainable German Shepherd
who will love you forever,
Jackson may be your ideal family member!
JACKSON'S ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
