TULIP is a stunning black and tan, large-sized female who was placed at a local shelter after being picked up as a stray. When she came to us, she was severely underweight and HW+, but under the diligent care of her foster home, is being treated for the heartworm and getting healthier everyday.
TEMPERAMENT
Tulip is VERY energetic , and LOVES to run and play soccer and keep-away with members of her foster family. This very outgoing girl has a sweet, gentle temperament towards people and other animals. She does have some startle responses, but quickly calms down. Due to lack of appropriate early handling, Tulip does have some behaviors such as counter-surfing, that are being worked on in her foster home. Her high energy sometimes causes her to become too excitable, but she has becomemuch better at calming down when re-directed. She also loves toys so much that she herds them all together - imagine - a dog that cleans up her toys! Tulip is also working on her recall skills, as well as other basic obedience commands.
OTHER ANIMALS
Tulip is in a foster home with other GSD buddy's and does well with them after slow, supervised introductions. She also lives with cats, and enjoys trying to coax them to play with her.
CHILDRENThis young "zoomie" queen would love to have young kids to play with, who are either 8+ or have experience with large, active dogs.
MEDICAL
Tulip came to MoGS HW+, but is currently undergoing treatment. She has no other known health issues.
IDEAL FAMILY: Tulip's ideal family would include either a very active family, or another dog buddy that she can play with.
If you're looking for a gorgeous, young, trainable German Shepherd
who will love you forever,
Tulip may be your ideal family member!
TULIP'S ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
