About Dino (03.17) | |
|
DINO is a 9 year old stunning, large black and silver sable male. He was surrendered to MOGS when his owner passed away and family members could not take him in. He was heart worm positive and needed a little training and time to adjust to a new life after his routine was turned upside down, but is doing SO well we cannot wait to see him find a loving forever home!
Temperament
Dino is from working lines, but is a very mellow guy, not high energy. His working lines is only a little present with his ball drive and protective instincts. He is content with a couple walks a day about a mile long, and loves to play fetch. He is crate trained, house trained, knows quite a few commands (but could use some brushing up on them), walks well on a leash, and is generally a very well-behaved boy!
He does have some protective tendencies that will require an owner who is aware and able to read his body language to not allow any escalation. This comes into play if he sees the need to protect or there is competition for his food or a ball he’s playing with. He is ok with people and dogs being around while he eats and plays, but he will show signs of protectiveness if he feels he is being challenged for it. Prevention, recognition, and proper handling of these situations to prevent any escalation is key!
Other Animals
Dino does well with other dogs in the home, but does not interact or play with others or want them to be in his face. We believe he would do fine as an only dog, or with other dogs in the home. He has not been cat tested.
Children
He has done well with teenagers and up.
Medical
When he was first surrendered he was heart worm positive. He has already been through treatment and has the all clear for whatever activity level he wants! Unfortunately, he does have knee dysplasia which will keep him from being running too hard or much jumping. Right now he doesn’t show any discomfort and benefits from regular joint supplements, and regular exercise is key to keeping his joints healthy as long as possible.
Dino is a large stunning boy and can be intimidating at first glance, but he actually loves people! Whenever he meets new people he has been extremely well behaved and eager for some pets, as long as he is with his “person” and knows the new people are welcome. He likes attention and rubs but is also content to lay by himself and relax, he isn’t a Velcro dog.
DINO'S ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
