JACK is a strapping young dog who is absolutely stunning! He was bought from a breeder by a young owner who couldn't handle him and asked for help but never followed any of the advice or training steps. The owner then 'got rid of' him when he was just over a year old. It saddens us deeply that Jack, like so many GSDs, was bought because he was a cute puppy, enjoyed while he was a puppy, and then discarded when the owner 'discovered' that he needed training and work to become a great dog.
Fortunately, he eventually ended up in the hands of a wonderful trainer. As a result he is now a fully trained dog with excellent manners! The family who makes him their lifetime companion will be fortunate to have him.
Jack is loving and sweet, and gets along with other dogs. His family will need to simply continue the commands and training he's used to.
But we all know that dogs are just like humans -- no one is perfect! Jack has one issue that his new family must deal with: over-protective of "his" home and territory. The trainer who trained him has a kennel arrangement and the dogs do no actually live in the main house, so is unable to train him and work with him on that particular issue in the kennel. Jack has been adopted out once to a lovely family, but the minute he showed inappropriate protectionism in the home, they returned him.
Inappropriate protectionism can be handled with consistsency, calmness and leadership. Both the trainer who has him and we at MOGS are more than happy to work with an adopter to help you learn to deal with this. It's simply a natural GSD trait - being protective - that the original owner never directed properly. So right now Jack is under the mis-impression that it's his job to respond that way. He's a very smart cookie, though, and with good leadership on this issue in the home he will respond well. It won't be an overnight fix, but with consistency and guidance he'll be fine.

JACK's ADOPTION FEE: $300 This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend
over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
