Location:           Kansas City area
Age:                 2 -3 yrs
Temperament:   shy and scared right now, but very sweet and will clearly be a very loving girl once she adjusts to life outside a puppy mill

Abbey has just started a BRAND NEW LIFE!!!!!!!  She put her feet on grass for the first time ever (and didn't know what to make of it).

Abbey was a breeder dog who was used to mass produce litter after litter.  She lived in a kennel her entire life, and clearly has never had a collar or a leash on.  The leash and collar scare her, but she made progress starting on Day 1!. Understandably, Abbey is confused by having her world turned upside down.  She is scared, shy and trying to figure out how to act. As with most puppy mill dogs, she jumps at unfamiliar noises and especially at sudden movements.  But she's already starting to adjust and experience tells us she'll come out of that as she gets used to the sounds and activity of a normal life as a beloved pet.

Abbey is in a foster home with other dogs and is great with them.  She's even scared of the little dog -- Abbey jumps back immediately when the little dog growls at her!  Abbey is also somewhat nervous right now.  It takes her a little while to settle down and she will pace before she settles.

Abbey has a good appetite and is eating well.  She scarfs down her food, but when the other dogs are eating or treats are being handed out she makes no attempt to take their food.  She shows no signs of food aggression.

She does well in her kennel and has made no move to try to get out of it.

It says a lot about Abbey that -- despite her fear and her entire world going topsy turvy -- on Day 1 in her foster home she was already following her foster mom around and even licked her face to show affection!  Abbey is clearly going to be a wonderful, loving and sweet companion for some lucky family.  She is going to be a lover who truly understands how precious a loving family is.

Are YOU the loving and fortunate family
who will give Abbey her fairy tale ending to a terrible life?

Abbey’s adoption fee is $300.00.

This fee covers a portion of the vet and boarding expenses for the dogs we save.  It includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies, distemper/parvo and bordatella vaccinations, deworming and microchip.

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
