SPECIAL BOY                        GABE 2 front feet, 1 smashed  GABE smashed foot
Gabe has a very special story.

He was saved from the Wichita pound by a local rescuer and MoGS agreed to assist.  The reason:  he had been run over by his owner on a gravel driveway - and the bottom of his front paw was a terrible mess.  He sat in animal control with zero medical attention and it became infected, making a bad situation much worse.  MoGS helped pay for his treatment, which lasted for over a year due to the recurrent infections and location of the injury (bottom of paw injuries are very difficult).  One toe had become necrotic due to the lack of medical care in the pound, and was amputated.

Gabe has just recently come into the MoGS program as an official program dog.  He has had a rough year or two, and is looking for that one, VERY special home where he can love, be loved, and comfortable for life!!!

Gabe is a gorgeous bi-color GSD who we think has some Belgian Malinois in him due to his coloring and body type.  He's still a young man (approx. 3 yrs) and is energetic.  Due to his paw injury he will never be tremendously active.  If he runs and plays for a long period, he still lifts that paw up, though it doesn't seem to bother him otherwise.  He has adjusted to a "quieter" life and appears to have a a very loving temperament.  He loves people, and appears to get along with most dogs.  He was out every day playing with the vet's dog for all those months he lived a the vet's office.  They were big dogs, and we have not yet tested him with small dogs.  We have not seen him around kids but believe he is likely to do well, the only issue being typical of all big dogs - sheer size and energy can easily knock a small child over if not supervised.

Gabe deserves the best home ever!!!   Cruelly injured by his owner,  dumped in a local shelter to die, and finally having a very long road to recovery, he's now ready to start the rest of his life!!!!

Unfortunately, due to a lack of people willing to open their hearts and home to foster a dog, Gabe is in a boarding kennel.  We have not observed him in a home setting.  Gabe desperately needs a foster or adoptive home ASAP!

Look at the pictures of his two front feet and notice the one that is flatter and wider - that's the foot that was run over.

ADOPTION FEE:  $300
Quite a bargain, considering we've spent some $2,000 on Gabe!  This covers all his vet bills for his injured leg (which almost got him euthanized at the humane society) and for his regular vetting (neuter, heartworm test, all shots, microchip, fecal, deworming).

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
