About Jude (03.16) | |
|
JUDE is a stunning, mostly-black GSD who is a complete love-bug! He's a wonderful mature age, has a lot of energy, and is always eager to go-go-go! Jude was picked up as a stray and left at a local animal hospital. They contacted us for help, and we answered the call!
TEMPERAMENT
Jude is so gosh-darn handsome! He's a big, sweet boy who's LOVING life in his foster home! He's been friendly with people he meets, although he may catch people off-guard because he likes to bark at anyone who's unfamiliar to him. He does not seem to be threatened by strangers, because his hackles are rarely, if ever raised. It seems he just likes to announce his presence - "Hey, I'm here!"
Jude spent months in boarding waiting for a foster home, and has now been in one for about a month. He's come a long way and is a great dog! He's VERY food motivated and although he still needs reminders to "wait", he's a good learner as long as you're consistent with him. He clearly never had much of this type of training before, so it's all new to him.
As he's settled into the routine of being a loved, indoor companion, Jude has shown a downright goofy side. At first he didn't seem to know what toys were, but now has a favorite toy (a long stuffed snake, see the picture of him on his back in the yard playing with it). And if you want to see and hear "goofy" in action, just watch the video of him playing in his black-and-white blanket! He loves to roll, play and sound off with his daily 'growl' .... we think he's telling the rest of the world to get up, get on with the day, and have some fun along the way!
OTHER ANIMALS
Jude does well with the other large dogs in his foster home. He doesn't play much with them, but coexists fine. We haven't had the opportunity to see him around small dogs or cats, but suspect he would need a strong handler for that. He does need proper introductions to other dogs - no get-in-your-face meetings.
MEDICAL
Jude is very healthy. He did have one seizure toward the end of his time in boarding, but it has never been repeated and was a one-time thing. We believe it was largely due to the stress of being in boarding for a number of months, combined with hot summer weather. Because he's large and dark, it will be wise to exercise caution during high heat weather.
If you're looking to add a big, mature hunk of goofiness and love
to your family,
JUDE may be that perfect companion!
Jude's ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
