REX is a heart-breaker - just look into those eyes and you're hooked! He's a sweet boy who gets along well with other dogs and is great with people. On the ride to freedom from the shelter, he strained to watch the world around him -- quietly hopeful that something better was ahead of him.
Rex was confiscated a year ago for cruelty - he was systematically starved, was heartworm positive, and lived with no food, water or shelter. Through an odd series of events, the shelter accidentally adopted poor Rex out to the same people he had been confiscated from! Thankfully, they called the shelter recently to say they couldn't care for him anymore and wanted to "return" him. We got the call from the shelter and were there in 20 minutes!
We're all thrilled to know that Rex is not in as bad condition as everyone had feared. His weight is decent and he is heartworm negative. He does have hair loss from fleas and obviously had a bad flea infestation, but he was immediately deflea-ed and has now had a soothing bath to get the stink and filth out.
Everyone who meets Rex kind of falls in love - despite his horrid history, he's got an amazing attitude and is chock full of love and energy. He just seems to love life, maybe it's all about wanting to make up for the years lost to cruelty? Who knows? All we know is this guy is a sweetheart! He's been tested with a rottie, two adult GSDs, two puppies, a small dog and a cat -- and has been great with all of them. Within a day at his foster home, he was moving freely around with the 10 month GSD and the older small dog. And when tested with a cat, he sniffed and then ignored her.
We haven't seen him around small children and that would have to be tested further, tho we suspect he would do well given his temperament.
was previously tested at the shelter and got along fine with other dogs. He's skiiny but is still heartworm negative and is a happy boy. His coat is in poor condition and he's missing fur near his tail from a bad flea infestation. We've gotten rid of the fleas and are feeding him a high quality food to build up his nutrition. And he's so thrilled to be in a good place that he just runs and runs to play ball. Rex LOVES his tennis balls and will adore you for life if you just play with him.
Aside from his aren't-balls-wonderful enthusiam, Rex is a fairly mellow and super nice guy! Are you looking for a dog who's past the crazy-puppy stage? Is fairly chilled out yet still loves life and play? Who will be a terrific companion and buddy for life? Rex is your guy! Hurry and put in your application now!

REX's ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
