More Information:
JILL is a standard sized German Shepherd who was kept outdoors 24/7 in a rural area. She lived around kids and other animals, and did fine with her own "pack." But she was not properly trained in basic manners to other animals, and as a result would charge at passing dogs and/or go after them. Her owners were unfamiliar with the gradual introduction process and the fact that this is a common issue for German Shepherds (indeed, for momany dogs!) As a result, they sent her to live with another family member who also had the same experience: keeping her outside 24/7 with no supervision/training and no proper introductions.
When we tested Jill with another German Shepherd, she displayed intense interest in the other dog. However, when corrected she responded quickly and within 5 minutes or so had broken her concentration and was looking around the room. While we wouldn't turn Jill lose with any strange animal right now, based on her dog-to-dog test we believe Jill simply needs a strong leader (as do most German Shepherds) who will train her in acceptable behavior around strange animals. She is teachable and just needs to be taught by someone who loves her enough to take the time and make the effort!
She is absolutely beautiful and allowed visiting children to jump over her, love on her, etc. She appears to be great with people and love them.
She is not crate trained but we think will adjust to that very easily. Much the same is true with potty training.
JILL's ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of the vet and boarding expenses for the dogs we save. It includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies, distemper/parvo and bordatella vaccinations, deworming and microchip.
