NOTE *** Eleena is currently in boarding due to a lack of available foster homes! Eleena needs a foster home so we can get to know her better before finding her a great forever home. Please send an email to mogsfostermgr@gmail.com if you can help! ***
ELEENA is an absolutely stunning girl with long legs and a statuesque beauty. She's a high German Shepherd mix, possibly mixed with great dane, who was turned in by someone who claimed to 'find' her stray - tho the shelter suspected it was really the owner. Whichever it was, Eleena was fearful and confused by being in the shelter. She was also thin and clearly had not had much training or leadership.
TEMPERAMENT
We're still evaluating her temperament, due to her being in boarding since intake. She's super-sweet around most people. We did see some barrier reactivity at the boarding kennel, but once out of the run or kennel she was fine. We think it may be a matter of her confusion at being in a shelter environment, combined with not being used to being kenneled. She also shows some anxiety about being approached from behind or above her head, which is being worked on daily by the wonderful boarding kennel staff.
During her temporary Labor Day weekend stay in a foster home, she did amazingly well! She fit right in with the other 3 large dogs in the home (male and female), and ignored the cats. She's super smart and learns quickly -- her temp foster mom corrected her only a couple of times and she learned to wait at the door, not beg at the table, stay off furniture unless invited, and more. She knows a few commands such as Sit. She appears to be all or mostly house trained and has even rung the little bell by the door once to go out. She was a velcro dog with the temp foster mom, following her everywhere (typical GSD, right?).
So far, she appears to be a fairly chill dog with a moderate energy level.
We think that once she gets into a full time foster home, she will truly blossom!
We'll know even more about her once that happens.
OTHER ANIMALSSo far she's shown appropriate behaviors with other dogs, with slow introductions. She's had no reactivity issues when other dogs are not behaving. During the Labor Day weekend, she got a break from boarding and stayed in a temporary foster home with 3 other large dogs and with cats. She did well with the large dogs and ignored the cats. She has not yet been tested around small dogs, but the indications are that she is likely to be okay with them.
CHILDREN At this time we haven't seen her around children and have not had the opportunity to test her with kids. That would have to be tested.
MEDICAL
She is spayed, heartworm negative, up-to-date on shots, and has no known medical issues
If you're looking for a truy stunning young girl
who's super-smart and will turn heads,
Eleena may be your ideal family member!
ELEENA'S ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
