BOSTON is an adorable, fluffy pup with a beautiful silken coat. He has some unique markings on his chest that almost like a cross, and we believe he's mixed with Australian shepherd. He's eager to please, just wants to be loved, and would be a lap dog if you let him. He loves to play with other dogs and another playful dog in the home is REQUIRED.
Boston was 1 of 6 dogs kept chained outdoors in dirt and mud all their lives by a family in small-town MO. The dogs were chained out of reach of each other so could see each other but couldn't interact. One of the other chained dogs was his mother Tessie (also now a MOGS dog), and several older step-brothers. It sickened us to know these dogs were being so cruelly neglected, and although they're not purebred GSDs we had to help them. (Three of the other dogs were taken in by Dogs Deserve Better, a wonderful group that helps chained dogs. The last dog was forced to stay chained and all alone, because the owner refused to give him up. We pray for him.)
Boston was the youngest of the group at just 6 months old, and has adjusted the most quickly. He has some typical chained/neglected dog behaviors - such as slinking up to his food dish, hitting the ground when he's scared, etc - but is pretty quickly coming around to understand he's loved and ok. While it's still a process for him to trust at all levels, we believe he'll be very fast to get the full message of what it's like to be a loved family member!
Boston still needs to learn house manners, such as not to jump on furniture or steal food, but he's very eager to please, is treat-driven and will be easy to train with consistent leadership. He's still getting used to all the ups and downs of having doggie siblings, and there have been one or two grumblings when he didn't understand something (such as rough play) -- but it's very minor and as he gets used to having normal doggie relationships even those little things will disappear.
Boston is virtually house-trained already and got there very quickly. He is crate trained, though he still doesn't like going in and will come bounding out unless stopped (he's being trained to sit and wait for his release command). He's 45 lbs and will probably be around 60-70 lbs as an adult.
Overall, Boston is a handsome, soft, fluffy lovebug who's VERY grateful to be off that huge logging chain and is starting to truly love life! He's adorable and has eyes that will make you fall in love at first sight. Only one VERY lucky family will get to add Boston to their forever pack -- is that YOU? Apply now!

BOSTON's ADOPTION FEE: $250
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so o
