About Hunter | |
|
HUNTER is a beautiful approximately 8-9-year-old German Shepherd. He has a solid build at 95 pounds, a normal coated black and tan guy, but mostly black with adorable tan eyebrows.
Temperament
Hunter LOVES to play with balls of all sizes and Frisbees, according to his foster mom. He will chase them and carry them around in the yard, as well as chase with some fellow foster fur-siblings. Hunter is pretty laid back in the house, not necessarily a Velcro dog but will definitely keep tabs on his people and maintain a clear line of sight.
Hunter is crate trained, potty trained, and knows some basic commands such as “sit”, and is working on “down” and more in his excellent foster home. Hunter has had some ear infections and at times they wonder if he has slightly damaged hearing, or if he’s just being ornery with selective hearing.
Other Animals
He does well with other dogs his size and can do well with smaller dogs when closely supervised. Hunter is a big boy and does enjoy playing but doesn’t quite know his size so he could be a little on the rough side for small dogs and children. He has been cat tested and shows some curiosity, but corrects quickly and easily.

Medical
Hunter is an older boy, but with plenty of years ahead of him! His hips give him some trouble so it’s unlikely he would be a dog to jump a fence, or able to be too active in ways that strain his hips. He has been able to dig under a chain-link fence, so he will need monitored outside if the fence is not really secure. He is fighting some bad allergies that have caused his ear infections, and is working on getting those issues figured out in foster care. Other than that, Hunter is a lovable big boy just waiting for his perfect home.

HUNTER'S ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
