BROOKLYN is a stunningly good-looking girl who turns heads when she's out for a stroll.  And with one ear slightly soft, she has a beautifully unique look all her own while at the same time being a classic GSD beauty

She was adopted from us in summer 2012 as an 8 week old puppy, along with her sister Frisco.  Both girls went to live with a wonderful family in Omaha.  As they grew, the girls became competitive and the adopters got training for both of them.  With work and patience, everything was going well as the girls grew to adulthood.  Then the family had another child and something changed in the relationship between the dogs.  Whether it was more competition for attention, we don't know for sure. But the dogs began fighting more often, with Brooklyn randomly starting fights.  The adopters love her and faithfully got more training, but ultimately felt the risk of a potential dog fight near their infant son was just too great. They dearly love both dogs, and it's breaking their hearts  to give up one.  The final decision to rehome Brooklyn was based on that fact that Brooklyn is completley healthy whereas her sister has some health issues, and they believe Brooklyn is more adoptable.

So while it's possible that Brooklyn could get along with a certain type of dog (such as a very submissive male), her ideal is to be an only pet.  She doesn't like to share your attention!  She's a love-bug and a love-hog .... super sweet, cuddly, relaxed, warm.   Even now, when it's just her and her family, she's a warm loving dog.  She simply doesn't want to share with another dog.

Brooklyn has a strong prey drive and loves to chase small animals, including free-roaming cats.  She'll definitely keep the squirrels and rabbits out of your yard!

She loves walks and does well on them with proper 'leash leadership'.  She's crate trained, house trained, microchipped, fully vetted and up to date on shots.

NOTE ON BROOKLYN'S BACKSTORY:  She and her siblings had a rough start in life.  THey were part of a littler of drug-bust puppies confiscated in a police raid.  Both parents were shot and klled by police, and the puppies were in critical condition.  We begged animal control to let us take them to the vet immediately, but they refused,  After many phone calls and much discussion, we finally were allowed to get them to our vet the next day.  Sadly, it was too late for one pup who died at our vet's office despite heroic efforts to save her that included a blood transfusion.  Brooklyn was one of the surviving group who were so severely malnourished that they weighed less than half what a 5 week old GSD pup should weigh.  We discovered that the drug-dealing owners never once fed the pups, but left them to barely subsist on their mom's milk (long dried up) and their own feces. They had massive intestinal worm infestations, had never been dewormed or had puppy shots.  We were in shock at the extent of the cruelty.  Fortunately, our fabulous fosters were able to give the surviving pups round-the-clock care.  It was a long, agonizing, 24/7 job.  But with sheer determination and dedication, they finally got the pups to turn the corner.  All of them became healthy, learned to stop eating their own stool, stopped attacking each other over food, and much more.  It's certainly possible that some of the conflict between Brooklyn and her sister stems from that background, but it's impossible to tell.  

THE BOTTOM LINE:  Brooklyn would REALLY like to an only pet!  When she's alone with her family, she's a super sweet lovebug who just wants to cuddle up!!

IDEAL FAMILY:        An active family with no other pets and family members who will keep her strongly exercised every single day is her ideal home.  She wants all the love and attention, and doesn't always share well with other animals.  She needs a securely fenced yard (6 ft fence strongly preferred) as she has a strong prey drive for small animals like squirrels, rabbits and free-roaming cats.  Needs good exercise and strong leadership!

BROOKLYN's ADOPTION FEE:   $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.

Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

1. We're picky about our adopters. 
2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.  
   
3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
   
5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up? 
   
6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
